- Background - My background is in conservation biology with an MSc in marine conservation and a PhD in freshwater conservation. After a brief first postdoc in the Middle East I turned to systematic reviews, working at CEBC in Bangor for three years before moving to Mistra EviEM in Sweden. I currently work as a Research Fellow at the Stockholm Environment Institute in Stockholm undertaking systematic reviews and systematic maps mostly in agriculture and environmental science. I’m a member of the CEE Training Group, the CEE Systematic Mapping Methods Group, and the CEE Stakeholder Engagement Methods Group. I’m guest editing a Special Series of papers on the subject of stakeholder engagement and evidence synthesis for Environmental Evidence.
- Experiences related to tech developments in SR/SM - I consulted with the GRACE project during the development of CADIMA. I undertook a NERC-funded fellowship with Defra investigating methods to increase transparency and efficiency in evidence reviews, including an investigation of web scraping. I have written three papers on web scraping and evidence synthesis as a results, including an analysis of grey literature and Google Scholar.
- Interests related to tech developments in SR/SM - I am co-leading an application for a workshop at the GES conference in Cape Town in September relating to a project to brainstorm stages of systematic review and map processes for which technology can increase efficiency and transparency. Generally interested in making the review process easier from start to finish. Interested in replacing basic tasks with automation to reduce costs and increase responsiveness.
- Current or finished projects related to tech developments in SR/SM - Defra fellowship on web scraping (completed; 3 papers). CADIMA methods article with GRACE project (ongoing). Assessment of time and costs required for CEE systematic reviews and maps using surveys and published reviews (ongoing).
- Expectations on the group - I’m hoping to be able to share our ongoing projects and learn more from others in the field. I’m also hoping we can brainstorm on how tech can help at various stages to increase efficiency and transparency, whilst also reducing costs.
